What Does it Mean to be Catholic? (with a Brief History of Advent)

Many have wondered why there is such a diversity of Christian denominations. It’s a great question! Join us for our ongoing series, “Exploring the Breadth & Beauty of the Church,” as we explore many of Christianity’s various denominations. Learn from the histories, liturgies, polities, controversies, and practices of other denominations and appreciate their shared commitment to Jesus Christ as the central figure of their faith.

We’ll be continuing this series on Wednesday evening, December 3 by exploring Catholicism and the history of Advent with Guest Speaker, Tom Yehl, Chaplain at Catholic Campus Ministries at Virginia Tech! We hope you’ll join us!

A bit about our Guest Speaker:

Tom Yehl has been a Catholic priest for 13 years and is in his third year as Chaplain for the Catholic Campus Ministry at Virginia Tech. Much of his preparation for working in campus ministry came from his membership in a community of men called Youth Apostles. This community is made up of priests and laymen who work with other volunteers to inspire young people to live a Christ-like life. Originally from northern Virginia where he served as a priest (including at several other college campus ministries), Tom is thrilled to be a Hokie!
