Short Course on Lewis’ “The Four Loves” Begins
In this course we will learn how our love images the divine love of God. Yet we will quickly be faced with the realization that while we love only because “He first loved us,” there is a qualitative distinction between our love and His. His love is a gift. Is ours also a gift? We will be forced to reckon with Lewis’ claim that likeness to God is accomplished through two distinct means: Creation & Sanctification. We will ask how Lewis’ four-fold categorization of our loves (Affection, Friendship, Eros, & Charity) can better equip us to live into our sundry God-given callings in life, shaping us into the kind of humans that St. Augustine described as having “rightly ordered affections.”
