Short Courses

Short Courses about some of the important books in the Christian tradition, old and new. While intended primarily for Virginia Tech students, we welcome faculty, staff, and local community member participants as well.

Our short courses for this semester include:

SC A.I. Square Details

Christian Perspectives on A.I.

Tuesdays, 3:30pm-4:45pm, starting September 9.

As Artificial Intelligence continues to rise as a technical, commercial, and cultural phenomenon, we think it is important to bring a Christian perspective to the ethical challenges this technology raises.

SC Lewis Square Details-5

The Great Divorce by C.S. Lewis

Tuesdays, 6:30pm-8pm, 11/4, 11/11, 12/2, 12/9

In The Great Divorce, C. S. Lewis reimagines the venerable literary tradition of chronicling a journey through the underworld. As the narrator experiences Lewis’ imagined Hell and Heaven, he discovers truths beyond the literal reality of the places he visits— they are, after all, allegorical. What strikes the narrator most are the distinctive traits of the people (souls) he meets along the way, and the implications for those still on the mortal plane.

Over the course of this four-part short course and reading, we will explore these themes and what they might have to teach us. Book copy provided for attendees! We are honored to have Connie Bayliss facilitate and teach this course.

Two Faculty SQ600

Faculty & Staff Events

Events for Christian faculty, staff, or administrators at Virginia Tech who would like to stay connected with the network of Christians at the university.

Fellows Dinner SQ1200

Fellows Program

Combining rich community over home-cooked meals, thoughtful conversation, and Christian spiritual formation, the Fellows program helps students to see themselves and their callings in the light of the gospel. This multi-semester program aims to provide a grounding in the best of what the historic Christian tradition says about bringing our whole lives into God’s story for all of creation.
